This seesion was again primarily used as a catch up session, because of the period of time we hadn't had a lesson with the teacher for.

The second half of the lesson we started creating our solo motifs for the assessment. To begin with we started putting toghether simple motifs we had learnt in previous sessions to make a much larger motif. We started with the balance exercise, which we combined with the coupe exercise. This worked really well as it was a combination of Grand Allegro and Petit Allegro. As one is small quick movements whereas the other is focused upon travelling.

Next we focused upon what the different genders of the class would do. As male and female dancers don't perform the same moves. So for example I am performing a much lower arabesuqe, whilst fonduing my leg, whereas the girls are going up on a relleve whilst doing the arabesque. I kept loosing my balance, so my teacher advised me to focus upon my corasbility much more in this section, to make a much stronger position. This worked well, and the correction had helpled a lot.

After this we used chance choreography, in the past this hadn't helped my piece, the best I wanted it to, so I was aprehensive about doing it, as in my previous attempt, the vairation of heights was too great, and it went high-low-high-low in a small space of time. We chose six different positions, we I chose to challange myself, rather than playing it safe. With these six positions we developed the movements from each position to make a motif.

This session we did an overall round up of what we had learnt through every session. So barre work was first which I had these motifs perfected, however my flexibility needs to be improved still.

Then went over the petit allegro sections, which I have developed my skills through private practice, but I still have along way to go to perfect these things.

The next stage was a new stage, which was the Grand allegro section, the fourth section of a ballet class. This was a mixture of difficulties, as it varied body parts, which my co-ordination wasn't working today. But the teacher then taught us a technique called spotting, to make sure our piroets were more controlled, and looked much more elegant, and the exercise became much more easier.

We looked at the third section of a ballet class this lesson, which is the petit allegro section. This means small quick movement of the feet.

We learnt three moves this session, so we can start to develop our understanding of travelling of ballet. We learnt:

  • Coupe
  • Changement
  • Parde de borais
For the above definitions, look at the glossary earlier on in the blog.

We then developed this into a motif, which was slightly different to what we usually did in ballet, as most things are stationary. This motif was then combined with the eshape exercise we did in adage. This motif was quite simple, and I picked this up easier than other motifs.

Our group carried on with the adage section of a ballet class. Compared to the first exercise we previously went through, we started on a new move, which is called Arabesque.

At first I struggled with keeping my waist facing the front, but after I saw a fellow dancer do it, it gave me the confidence and challenge to complete it, which I worked on throughout the lesson. I improved this very thoroughly looking into each body part, and making sure they are in the right place.

After this we performed two barre exercises, the plie and the kick motif. This time we didn't use the barres, this was to develop corsability and improve balance. Ironically I found the second position easier without the barres, as I had no obstructions.

This lesson we added a new section on to the class, which was the adage section. This is the second part of a ballet class. This is second because its still preparation, but your balance has been worked on, with the first part.

To begin adage, we did a porde de bras exercise, this is where dancers go through the arm positions in a fluent sequence. I found this extremely easy as it's slow and very relaxed, the sequence went through;

  • Neutral Position
  • First Position
  • Second Position
  • Fourth Position
  • Other fourth Position
  • Fourth Crossed
  • Fifth
  • Rellever
  • second position and demi plie
  • Into final position

This session we were again still on the barre work, in which we learnt another motif, this was the eshape exercise.

I found this motif the hardest to get to grips with out of every motif so far as it involves a good level of co-ordination between arms and legs, whilst using balance also. This used a mixture of things, which I couldn't get my head around in this lesson, so will have to work on this motif especially so ready for testing.

After this session we again went through the previous motifs to to strengthen up this so we had them 100%, which I found I have majorly improved since the beginning.
